Cemetery History
On October 13, 1873, the Flint and Pere Marquette Railroad Company deeded one acre of land to Colfax Township with the express stipulation that it be used only for the purpose of establishing a township cemetery. The first documented interments were 7 year old Charlotte Doran (3/13/1874) and her 11 year old brother, William (4/16/1874).
The cemetery is currently undergoing surveying to create a more accurate site placement. The Cemetery Committee has been working to bring the cemetery and its regulations up to date and in line with state law.
Cemetery Rules & Regulations
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE
No burial of any kind is permitted without the presence of the sexton or an elected official or their designee AND the burial transit slip from the attending funeral home.
Additionally, Memorial headstones, plaques, etc., must meet cemetery specifications AND there may be NO memorials placed without the presence of the sexton.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW CEMETERY REGULATIONS MAY RESULT IN THE REMOVAL OF ITEM(S) AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE.
